I’ve struggled with my weight since I was a child.
- My family didn’t teach good eating habits.
There was always potato chips, cookies, ice cream and all types of snacks available in the cupboards. We often opted for fast food for lunch and dinner. No one participated in sports or made an effort to be physically active. My family spent a lot of time watching television, playing video games and reading. When I was in high school, my weight issues led to a lack of self-confidence. Although I really wanted to participate in sports such as track, volleyball and cheerleading, I lacked the courage to try out. I didn’t attend prom or the senior dinner dance. In college, I tried to eat better and exercise, but I really didn’t know how to go about it. I’d lose weight only to gain it right back. The continual cycle was extremely discouraging. I tried joining a gym, but was intimidated by the amount of equipment and the people who were obviously in much better shape than me. A couple of years ago, I finally signed up with a personal trainer. The one-one-one workout sessions have completely changed my life. Following the advice of my trainer, I also consult with a nutritionist. I now stick to a healthy meal plan and complete guided workout sessions several times per week. I’ve lost a ton of weight and feel stronger, healthier and better than ever. I’ve started riding my bike, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing and recently joined a white water rafting group. I have gained confidence, made friends and am so much happier. Because of my personal trainer, I continue to achieve new fitness goals.
